One main task is the development and the construction of a mobile wind tunnel in cooperation with the University of Halle. In Kazakhstan, wind erosion is a crucial process for soil and humus losses. It is mainly affected by agricultural land use and its intensity. In the worst-case wind erosion causes the total loss of soils. Therefore, the reduction of wind erosion is an important aim of optimized soil tillage.
Last week the first test run started at the UGT GmbH.

Berlin-Brandenburg Quality Award for UGT in 2018

Quality is a very important factor to work successfully in the market. UGT puts quality in the center of the production process. Quality management is not only determined by the work of the quality manager but well established at each work place in our company. It is therefore that UGT works among other things according to the new standard DIN ISO 9001:2015, to better manage risks. The modern measuring instruments and process descriptions and procedures document the quality of our products. Digitalization helps to collect production data. The word “quality 4.0” gets into reality.

What can we do to fight plastic waste in oceans and rivers – representative studies get started

RusekuUGT – as a middle sized company is happy to be part of the Project RUSEKU an ambitious research work with partners from German universities, governmental authorities, agencies and industrial companies.
As a medium sized company UGT will do the very best to be a valuable partner in the joint research project.
In the project be RUSEKU there the project partner carry out a representative study concerning methods and strategies for an integrative system that enables understanding of relevant environmental compartment plastic entry paths in the water.
The project “representative study strategies for an integrative system understanding of specific entries of plastics in the environment (RUSEKU)” has the target to develop until the beginning of 2021 procedures to measure the micro plastic content of the different areas of the water circuit in a better and faster way. The focus is on sampling procedures in urban sewage systems and in rivers.
How healthy will future generations find our waterways and oceans? A big challenge and an important work lies in front of us. The kickoff meeting will take place on the 9th of July at the Federal Environmental Agency,  Umweltbundesamt in Berlin.

Safety First

Fire extinguisher training

At least every year a special training takes place at UGT Müncheberg. We were informed about the location of the fire extinguisher, emergency exits and first-aid facilities as well as procedures in case of an emergency.

Feel the Flow

In the spotlight of this month:
Piezo-M-150
SONY DSC
Advantages:
UGT developed a Piezometer for simple and fast measurements at the hyporheic zone with high vertical resolution. Because of the very robust stainless steel tip, our piezo-M 150 can easily pushed in the aquifer (rock, gravel, sand, silt). Our Piezo-M 150 is suitable for a wide variety of uses.
SONY DSC
Application:
By using water level loggers it is possible to measure the water head in different piezometers and estimate flow directions between ground water and surface water. Optional, it is possible to install different other sensor for measuring temperature, electric conductivity, oxygen and other parameters, which provide useful information about the conditions of the water bodies.

Prize
This price for small and medium-sized enterprises in the whole of Germany enjoys the highest resonance. The price has been launched since 1994 by the Leipzig Oskar Patzelt Foundation.
For work, education and innovation: the best of the 16 Federal States of Germany – 4971 companies were nominated by associations, companies, chambers of commerce in January 2018.
We are very proud of the fact that, on Friday, 27.04.18, UGT in the Berlin-Brandenburg region has been chosen by the jury as one of a total of 41 companies from Berlin-Brandenburg. So we passed this important hurdle on the way to the finalists and winners for the Grand Prize of small and medium-sized businesses. We are in the jury list!

How works the selection of the companies for the Price?
The tournament season for the “Grand Prize for small and medium-sized businesses” starts each year on 1. November with the new nomination phase. Up to 31. January, citizens, members of parliament, institutions or companies propose prize-worthy companies to this competition. Because nobody can apply by himself. The company has to be nominated by a third party – UGT was nominated!
After nomination, the company, according to set criteria, has to submit the application documents until April 15, 2018. UGT has approached this challenge and filled in the application form in accordance with the set criteria and showed the performance of the company.
Criteria 1: general development of the company
Kriterium 2: creation and development of labor and training places
Kriterium 3: innovation and modernization
Kriterium 4: commitment in the region
Kriterium 5: service and customer proximity (marketing)
The processes in the company will be evaluated in a clear way.
Now we have the half time result.
The companies that are on the jury list of 12 regional juries in Germany will be evaluated until the end of June! We are candidates in this final round!
Dr. Sascha Reth, Managing Director of our company, will receive the certificate for the achievement to be on the “Jury” list on Monday, 18.06.2018, in Berlin. This document is provided by Brandenburg’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Energy, Mr Hendrick Fischer.
On the 08th of September 2018 the big decisionconcerning the award will be taken, the festive event will take place in the Maritim Hotel in the city of Dresden!
On this day, in the margin of a festive event the award gala will take place:
This event is for the companies from the Federal States of: Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin-Brandenburg. This is high point in the history of a company! A delegation of colleagues of our company will take part in this event and have the chance to witness this decision in Dresden and perhaps we can “bring home” a price . Thanks to all colleagues of UGT, it is their day-to-day work that enables UGT to be a trusted and highly respected partner for our customers and partners, we believe that our team is a real candidate to be one of the winners in the contest for the Grand Prize for small and medium-sized companies.

International Project ReKKS in the field of soil management

UGT is part of the international project “Innovations for sustainable use of agricultural resources and climate adaption in the arid steppes of Kazakhstan and Southwestern Siberia (ReKKS).
klogo
The project aims at the development and implementation of innovative solutions for an economically and ecologically sustainable land management. It consists of research in the field of a possible is adaption to climate change in one of the most important agricultural areas worldwide. The main goal of the project is the development of innovative sustainable climate-adapted agronomic concepts.
The work will be performed at two spatial scales. At the level of the whole steppe, the climatic-dependent impact of different land use and soil use and soil management on soil erosion, soil organic matter and nutrient availability will be identified along climatic gradients. At research fields of research institutions and on-farm novel agronomic approaches will be identified along climatic gradients. At research fields of research institutions and on-farm novel agronomic approaches will be developed and optimized. This will be accompanied by research on soil erosion, soil water budget and nitrogen use efficiency and step restauration.

First soil testing with the auger
The task of the UGT- company are focused to two topics – the development and fabrication of a weighable lysimeter station that operates during the whole year and the construction of a mobile wind tunnel. The measuring results are decisive and will be used in the project by all scientific partners to fulfill their tasks. Dr. Manfred Seyfarth was part of a work team that consisted of scientists from Leibniz University Hannover, University of Halle, UFZ Halle. The colleagues visited last week Kazakhstan in order to do the preparative work for the lysimeter station.
With the scientific investigation using LYSIMETERS and soil hydrological measuring stations as well as comprehensive climate measurement technology there will be provided new insights into the establishment of sustainable and climate-adapted farming concepts for dry steppe areas. The target is also to develop and give recommendations for a sustainable soil management.
